Would you like to live in the time period and places you write about in your books?
I would, but I’m not sure I want to give up all the modern conveniences of this age. I must admit that I find the clothing gorgeous, so I’d love to wear a gown from that time period just once.
What is the first book that made you cry?
This is an easy one – Charlotte’s Web. Bawled my eyes out.
What do you need in your writing space to help you stay focused?
Besides my coffee, it’s what I need out of my writing space that is of the greatest help to me. I am easily distracted, so I must have complete silence to work. Luckily, I have my own office and am able to close the door when I need quiet.
How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?
My first book was fun to write, but I learned how lacking a strong character arc can hurt a story. Since then, I’ve really focused on showing how my characters can grow and learn from their mistakes. Some have small arcs while others have greater arcs. Take Juliet Lambert from my Secrets of Scarlett Hall series, for example. She learns a lot by the end of the series and is probably one my favorite characters because of the growth she makes.
