About Kathleen Ayers

Kathleen Ayers is the bestselling author of Regency and Victorian romance with strong, witty damaged heroes who can’t help falling for intelligent, sassy heroines. An avid reader, Kathleen fell in love with historical romance as a teenager after picking up a copy of Sweet Savage Love. When her nose isn’t stuck in a book, she gardens (with mixed results), works on perfecting her charcuterie board skills and enjoys a good wine tasting.

A Texas transplant, Kathleen shares a backyard swimming pool with her husband, son and two very spoiled dogs. She loves to hear from readers.

The first book of Kathleen’s new The League of Extraordinary Widows series will be published by WOLF Publishing in 2025.

Q&A with Kathleen

What is the first book that made you cry?

Honesty, Miss Hickory when I was about 8. She’s alive until a squirrel eats her because she’s a hickory nut. Maybe not use that one. But The Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas (aka my hero) never fails to make me teary eyed. I love a reformed man.

Does writing energize or exhaust you?

Neither. But I will say that if I don’t write for a period or take a break – I get really angsty. It feels unnatural NOT to write.

Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

Both. I like quirky characters and plots. I love flaws. But at the end of the day there are certain tropes readers want – and I try to satisfy that while keeping things as original as I can.

What’s your favorite under-appreciated novel?

The Widow of Rose House. I feel like it should have been much bigger than it was. I adore that book.
